As a lead designer at Prime MSO, overseeing the management of numerous surgical facilities, I witnessed firsthand the struggles healthcare professionals faced with inefficient medical record systems. These systems were often a labyrinth of paperwork, manual processes, and disjointed communication, leading to errors, delays, and frustration.
Captu was born, a startup with a real problem on its hands. To rescue these medical professionals from the clutches of administrative chaos, I embarked on a journey to design Captu's platform and develop it into an intuitive, efficient tool.
To truly understand the depths of the problem, I embedded myself in the daily lives of Captu's users: doctors, nurses, and administrative staff. Through in-depth interviews, shadowing staff members, and meticulous analysis of their existing workflows, the pain points became crystal clear:
Armed with this knowledge, I set out to transform Captu's system from a source of stress into a tool of empowerment. The goal was to design an interface that was so intuitive, even a sleep-deprived resident could navigate it with ease.
We focused on three key areas:
This layout adjusts to different devices, ensuring important content is always prioritized.
We didn't just design in a vacuum. We collaborated closely with real users, gathering feedback through usability testing sessions and incorporating their insights into the design. This iterative process ensured that the final product truly addressed their pain points and met their needs.
Two most important information to show is the clear, color status of the request and the health plan.
Information divided into meaningful sections with large, clear titles and visual language.
The Captu redesign reinforced the power of empathy, collaboration, and a relentless focus on the user. By listening to the people on the front lines, we were able to transform a frustrating, error-prone system into a streamlined, intuitive platform that empowered medical professionals to do their best work.
Spacious layout with large fields, buttons, and filters makes finding and managing requests easy and efficient.
From spreadsheets to spacious cards with colored indicators to manage requests with speed and efficiency.
The redesigned Captu platform was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback:
Users reported feeling more in control of their work, less stressed, and more confident in their ability to manage medical records efficiently. The improved workflow directly translated to better data quality and, ultimately, better patient care.
The Captu project is a testament to the impact that thoughtful design can have in a complex field like healthcare. By focusing on user needs and streamlining workflows, we transformed a chaotic system into an intuitive, efficient platform that benefits both healthcare providers and their patients.
